The region leads the European production of seedless table grape varieties own (17/08/2010)

The visit was attended by President APOEXPA (Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruits and Agricultural Products), Joaquin Gomez, and Vice President, Esther Gómez.

Cerda said the renewal varietal development and breeding of new varieties of seedless table grapes can have a unique offer in the region "with grapes tasty and attractive to the consumer and farming techniques for profitable and productive grower.

This project also aims to extend the season seedless table grapes to supplement the current production schedule, with varieties that equal or better quality to protected varieties currently on the market and to develop varieties resistant to the presence of pests and diseases.

In this regard, the Minister noted the success of these crops by the Clean Agriculture Program has achieved a "zero waste factor" in the regional table grapes.

Cerda said that since the project began six years ago, the Region of Murcia has become the leading producer and exporter of native varieties of seedless table grapes, "ahead of Valencia and Andalusia, and also well ahead of our main European rivals, Italy and Greece. "
