Abarán Sunday hosted the Second Regional Meeting of Bolillo Lacemakers, organized by the Department of Women's City Hall, with the collaboration of the Association of local lace makers.
Paseo de la Ermita gathered over 130 participants who showed the art of making bobbin lace, a practice that requires "patience," according to its authors.
"The secret is to be patient and you like what you do; on bolillero setting the pattern that can have multiple pictures, eg, a heart-shaped peak is called, other strands, known as spiders and we also have foot, which is the corner or edge of the piece, are placed the pins and begin to weave poles, "explained one of the artisans of this technique.
The different associations, from Burgos, Molina de Segura, Cieza, Ricote, Abanilla and The Algaida, presented a variety of handmade items: fans, linens, ornaments, pins, embroidery, earrings, lace, pillows or purses.
The Association stands for Abarán lace makers, the Brotherhood of Saints Medical, haberdashery and various shops, also formed part of the Sunday market.
Abarán Mayor, Antonio Eugenio Gomez, accompanied by the local group's president, Victoria Gomez, and the council of Women, Isabel Carrasco, experienced first hand impressions of bobbin lace.
"We really wanted to celebrate this event in Abarán and display the charms of our people," said Victoria Gómez.
For its part Isabel Carrasco said "an excellent turnout and response associations lace makers, demonstrating the success of activities like this."
In addition, smaller children participated in activities organized by the Employment Workshop Andarraix.
After the meeting, which began about 10 am, the members shared a lunch.
