New Generations of Abarán published a manifesto for peace and against violence (29/01/2011)

EPACT January Abarán New Generation is dedicated to the struggle for peace and against violence.

To celebrate World Day of Peace and Non-violence, young People's Party have joined the initiative of UNESCO's Manifesto 2000, editing and distributing a brochure with the commitments undertaken by that organization.

What is "Manifesto 2000"?

Among the events planned for 2000 International Year of Culture of Peace, UNESCO launched the "Manifesto 2000 for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence, prepared by a group of Nobel Peace Prize with the aim of that the greatest number of people around the world to accede to it.

Among the first signatories of the manifesto included Norman Borlaug, Adolfo Perez Esquivel, the Dalai Lama, Mikhail Gorbachev, Mairead Maguire, Nelson Mandela, Rigoberta Menchu, Shimon Peres, Jose Ramos Horta, Joseph Roblat, Desmond Tutu, David Trimble, Elie Wiesel, Carlos Felipo Ximenes Belo ...

The Manifesto reads:

Recognizing our share of responsibility for the future of humanity, especially for children of today and of tomorrow, we commit in our daily lives, our family, our work, our community, our country and our region:

Respect the life and dignity of every person without discrimination or prejudice

PRACTICE active nonviolence, rejecting violence in all its forms: physical, sexual, psychological, economic and social, in particular towards the most deprived and vulnerable such as children and adolescents;

SHARE OUR TIME AND OUR MATERIAL RESOURCES spirit of generosity to put an end to exclusion, injustice and political oppression and economic

DEFEND FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY preference always to dialogue and listening without engaging in fanaticism, defamation and the rejection of others

Promote their responsible and development that takes into account the importance of all life forms and the balance of the planet's natural resources;

CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR COMMUNITY, with the full participation of women and respect for democratic principles, in order to create together new forms of solidarity.
