José Ballesta also presents the project to extend the first section of the road to Abarán, what will happen to have one lane in each direction to have two

The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, accompanied by the mayor of Abarán, Antonio Eugenio Gomez, attended today the start of the installation of a new system to prevent falls or to improve road safety in the access road and presented Abarán the proposed extension of the first section of this route.

With respect to works starting today, the Minister stressed that "this action will avoid the falling rocks and drag items to the road by heavy rain or wind, which will ensure greater safety on this road which has over five million journeys a year. Furthermore, it is an area near the center of population for which there is pedestrian traffic, which will also benefit from this action. "

José Ballesta noted that "these security features to prevent unintended erosion of the slope, reinforcing security at the entrances."

These works are carried out on the road RM-513, which gives access to people from the highway Cartagena-Albacete (A-30), and have a regional financing of 258,432 euros.

In particular, we will proceed with the placement of seven metal meshes, four to five meters high, and a network of steel cable to protect 200 square meters.

"Due to the size of the protection elements will be used cranes for placing the metal mesh at those points where the access is more difficult," said José Ballesta.

Two lanes in each direction

Also, the Minister presented the project to expand the platform of the access road to Abarán (RM-513), which will go from having one lane in each direction to have two, in the section from kilometer 1 to the intersection with the road linking Abarán Cieza (RM-512).

The project, which was drafted by the City of Abarán also includes the construction of new sidewalks, installation of necessary signage and construction of parking on the stretch between the roundabout junction with the road RM-514 and the connection with the avenue of Cieza.

The works, which will provide greater safety and flow at the entrances to town, have a total budget of 788,591 euros, funded 90 percent by the Ministry, 709,732 euros, while Abarán City Council will provide the rest.

Another improvement carried out by Public Works, through the Directorate General of Highways, on the approaches to the population and with an investment of 233,160 euros, are made during the past year in the RM-B17, which connects the White municipality and that consisted of the curve straightening and separation of 600 meters from the road in an area prone to record falls of earth and stones, as well as improving access to adjoining properties and the drainage system.
