The plenary approved the request to be declared a disaster area Abarán (13/08/2009)

Abarán Mayor, Antonio Eugenio Gómez, has announced measures to support employment growth in men and women whose economic livelihood has been affected by this situation and has shown support throughout the Corporation to the farmers.

The Municipal Corporation, in an urgent special meeting of City Council in plenary session held today, unanimously adopted the proposal of Councillor of the area of Agriculture, Federico García Montiel, requesting the State Administration, through the Government Delegation, and the Autonomous Community of Murcia, in the framework of its powers to declare the municipality of Abarán as a disaster area following the damage caused on 9 August, following torrential rains, hail and wind.

The storm, which dumped large stone and toured the district of Vega Alta from north to south, affecting to a greater or lesser extent the four municipalities that make up, affected crops in the area, mainly caused heavy damage in orchards Bone, grapevine and olive.

In peach and nectarine harvest is lost current late varieties that were still uncollected and late Paraguayans and table grapes.

The damage also affect wood and buds, and leaf with a consequent lack of chlorophyll, which makes it provides a great loss for the next harvest season.

Also, has not only damaged the wood of the year but in many cases has been raised crust of main branches and trunk, causing injuries of considerable size and depth.

In this situation, the mayor of Abarán, Antonio Eugenio Gómez, has shown support throughout the Corporation to the farmers and announced that next September will lead the government team in plenary for approval a request to the SEF (Service Employment and Training) to increase employment among men and women whose economic livelihood has been affected by this disaster.

In the municipality of Abarán, the areas most affected were the Roulette, Opo House, The Asomada, Casa Marin Casa Perapera and Alcantara.
