The Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia (FMRM), the Ministry of Environment and Ecoembes have handed out the prizes to the most recyclable municipalities in the Region of Murcia in 2017.
Abarán has been the municipality that recycled the most, depositing a total of 18.8 kg / inhabitant of light containers, for which it has been awarded 6,000 euros.
In addition, they have also obtained the award to the municipality with the highest percentage increase above the regional average, by increasing the contribution by 12.8% over the previous year.
For this reason, he has obtained an additional prize of 5,000 euros.
Both awards consolidate it as the most recyclable municipality in the Region of Murcia.
On the other hand, the City of Mazarrón has achieved the largest percentage increase in the collection of light containers from those municipalities that represent values ​​below the regional average, being therefore awarded 4,000 euros to achieve an increase of 37.8%.
All prizes will be allocated to social work projects in the respective municipalities.
This initiative aims to encourage citizen participation in the recycling of light packaging, and the commitment of local administrations in achieving the collection objectives set by the European Union.
These awards are framed within the advertising campaign 'Recycle and Breathe', which emphasizes the environmental benefit of recycling through the yellow container, linked to air quality.
This campaign was in force during the past year, and will also continue to be exploited in 2018, both at the local level, through the municipalities, and at the regional level.
Its objective is to continue raising awareness among Murcians to perform a proper separation of waste in their homes in order to maintain an atmosphere free of contamination.
The awards ceremony was chaired by the Minister of the Environment, Javier Celdrán, the president of the FMRM, Joaquín Hernández, the general director of Medio Medio, Consuelo Rosauro, and the director of Local and Regional Management, Ángel Hervella.
The awards were also received by the mayor of Abarán, José Miguel Manzanares, and the mayor of Mazarrón, Alicia Jiménez.
