The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment, Antonio Luengo, visited today the members of the brigades that serve the Forest Defense Center, located in the Sierra de la Pila, in the municipality of Abarán.
Luengo highlighted the work carried out by professionals who are part of the device for the prevention and extinction of forest fires, "which ensure the 485,000 hectares of forest we have in the Region of Murcia."
The counselor recalled that annually the Community "allocates almost ten million euros to this device, in which every day 235 people work continuously to ensure the natural environment."
During the period of high danger, which ranges from May 1 to September 30, the number of troops is increased and âcurrently make up the device 455 professionals, as well as technicians from the General Directorate of Natural Environment, as well as other environmental agents of the Ministry, âadded Luengo.
He also stressed that "this year we have been able to release the use of drones, which help especially when identifying hot spots in the areas when a fire occurs, which is especially useful especially at night."
