The Community will launch this year 245 new places for older who will join the more than 3,400 there right now
The Minister of Health and Social Policy, Catherine Lorenzo, today visited the residence of seniors 'Nicolás Gómez Tornero' Abarán, whose expansion has meant an increase of 14 places in residential scheme in the municipality.
During the visit the minister was accompanied by the managing director of the Instituto Murciano Social Action (IMAS), Leopoldo Navarro, as well as CEO of IMAS Seniors, Enrique Pérez, and the mayor of Abarán, Jesus Molina.
The center, built in 2006, offers residential services and day center, and in him they serve more than 30 professionals, who include doctors, nurses, cleaning and physiotherapists, among others.
Today, after enlargement, the number of residential places amounted to 52 and Day Service Center can accommodate 57 users.
Of the 109 seats, the IMAS has arranged 64, of which 26 are in residential scheme and 38 day center.
The Minister stressed "the importance of promoting comprehensive care tailored to the needs of each user through these services to maintain their level of autonomy and delay as possible deterioration".
Lorenzo, who stressed the role of the elderly in society, decided to foster active and healthy aging, so valued all activities that are scheduled in different centers aimed at promoting the practice of exercise and work the mind.
During this meeting, the minister recalled that the regional government for the elderly are "a priority".
Therefore, he added, "over the past year we created 260 new public squares and concerted practices in residential service and day center".
In conclusion, Lorenzo announced that "this year the regional government will work to increase with 245 new places more than 3,400 spaces no larger than at present in the region".
