The exhibition "Murcia and water.
History of a passion ", which runs the Region of Murcia routes steeped in history, opened its doors yesterday in the worship center Plaza in order to publicize and raise awareness of the importance of this natural element.
The event was attended Abarán Mayor, Antonio Eugenio Gómez, members of the municipal corporation, Pascual Vera Nicholas, curator of the exhibition and Ana María Martín Luque, responsible for coordination and documentation.
"Necessity is the mother wit and possibly the water scarcity that has driven our ancestors to take advantage of the rain water circulating through the gullies through sluices, to build dams in order to restore stream channels and use its waters to establish systems labyrinthine canals to guide a crop, to be implemented to raise water wheels and watermills where needed, to build reservoirs to store and regulate it, "said Pascual Vera, head of the explanatory texts.
Abarán is represented at the exhibition through the Norias Road.
Around the River Segura which is conserved according to the sample "is probably the best preserved of all the wells in the region.
It can be found from the Noria Grande, considered the largest working waterwheel in Europe, until the wheel of the Hoya de Don Garcia, a native of the early nineteenth century. "
The sample of didactic, is aimed at schools and also unveils the path of tanks in Jumilla, where there are fifty tanks.
Other routes that complement the exhibition are the Ricote Valley route, the route of the snow pits Espuña or path from the garden of Murcia.
The exhibition is open to the public from 20 April to 3 May at 13.00 and 10.00 hours from 16.00 to 20.00h in the Cultural Center Plaza.
Organized by the Regional Assembly of Murcia and Real Academia Alfonso X El Sabio de Murcia, it helps the Department of Culture of the City of Abarán.
