The Pipe Band Association Youth 'Mazikandú' by Abarán, managed a creditable third in the first phase of the League Galician Bagpipe Band, which was held in the province of Zamora.
The participation of our countrymen took place at 10 am on Sunday, as the one who opened the series of performances of his group in fourth grade, where a dozen participants, mainly from Orense (5), Lugo (3) and Zamora (2), plus another of Toledo and the Abarán, sole representative of the Region of Murcia.
In the end, MAZIKANDÚ got a deserved third place in its category, in a very cold weekend, where abaraneros, like other participants, had to endure temperatures as low as 17 below zero.
The event, which took place in the municipality of Traber's Ready, brought about over 2,000 pipers, integrated into a total of 54 bands, which participated in four different categories.
La Liga Gallega Pipe Band is celebrating its twentieth edition, and has mainly Galician and Asturian bands, but also had a place in the competition other arrivals from different parts of Spain and Portugal.
It should be noted the tremendous efforts by members of the Pipe Band of the Youth Association 'Mazikandú' to attend this competition and thank the people of Alcañices the facilities provided to those Abarán to enable accommodation.
